Tento nový závod bude mít i nový název který je typický pro náš region, a to HANÁCKÉ GRAVEL. Závod HANÁCKÉ GRAVEL ve Střeni bude součástí závodů GRAVEL BOHEMIA CUP – ČESKÝ POHÁR 2023.
Myšlenka uspořádat první český pohár vznikla již v loňském roce v hlavě Petra Brudr Svobody z Hlinska, který uspořádal v loňském roce mistroství ČR v této cyklistické disciplíně a spojil se s Českým svazem cyklistiky a nadšenci v daných regionech.
V Olomouckém kraji se pro tuto myšlenku nadchli Petr Březina, který v regionu pořádá spousty akcí pro cyklisty a sám vede cyklo team Kolárna a propagátor cyklistiky i ostatních sportů Roman Brandýs, jenž se v cyklistice pohybuje, trénuje děti a pořádá cyklistické i triatlonové soutěže již více jak 30 let.
Slovo dalo slovo Petr Březina a Roman Brandýs si řekli, proč nepsat tuto historii, domluvili se s Petrem Svobodou, plácli si navzájem s tím, že závod v Olomouckém kraji bude historicky první závod Českého poháru GRAVEL BOHEMIA CUPu 2023.
Míst, kde uspořádat tento závod, se nabízelo více, ale oba dva pánové si právě vzpomněli na tradici cyklistických závodů v obci Střeň, kdy pořadatelé vždy předvedli bezchybnou dokonalou práci s využitím zázemí obce. Proto oslovili Michala Frantíka, rodáka z této obce a bezprostředně pana starostu obce Jiřího Nevimu, následně představili tento závod zastupitelům obce Střeň a místním složkám. Bylo dohodnuto, mohla se rozjet práce směřující k hlavnímu cíli, a to ke dni „D“ k samotnému závodu.
Nyní má závod již potvrzenou záštitu hejtmana Olomouckého kraje Josefa Suchánka a pojede se jako Mistrovství Olomouckého kraje GRAVEL 2023.
Počítá se s dopoledním programem, závody pro ty nejmenší a mládež a nezpoamíná se i na odpolední, večerní hudební vložku.
Ambasadorem závodu bude Tomáš Konečný, vítěz 6. ročníku závodu ve Střeni z roku 2007, bývalý český reprezentant v silniční cyklistice a trenér české reprezentace, vítěz řady významných světových závodů včetně etap Závodu Míru nebo etapy na grand Tour La Vuelta a účastník Tour de France.

„ Rozhodně máme na co navazovat. Závod jako takový vznikl již v roce 1991. Prvotní myšlenku k uspořádání závodu ve Střeni přinesl Michal Frantík, v té době sám končící s aktivní závodní cyklistikou, kterého jsem znal jako kluka závodícího za Uničovský tým Unex Uničov. Původně se závod konal jako časovka jednotlivců, která zavedla závodníky do krásných lesů Litovelského Pomoraví v okolí obce Střeň. Již v té době závod vzbudil hodně pozornosti mnohých silných cyklistických týmů, svou atmosférou či zajímavými cenami.
V roce 2005 se však za pomocí obce Střeň, a mnohých dobrovolníků z této vesnice podařilo navázat na tradici, při jejímž zrodu stál opět Michal Frantík, coby hlavní srdce tohoto závodu i do let budoucích. V tomto roce se závod konal již jako exhibiční cyklokros s cílem přilákat co nejzajímavější osobnosti z oboru cyklistiky.
Závod tak dostal život v podobě kvalitní účasti závodníků z celé republiky až do roku 1993, ovšem z důvodu pracovního působení Michala Frantíka za hranicemi České republiky se závod dlouhých 11 let nekonal. Závod se tak de facto stává v roce jeden z nejlépe obsazovaných cyklistických podniků současnosti na celém území ČR. Na startu byl v té době, Roman Kreuziger, František Raboň, Leopold Konig, Tomáš Konečný, Jan Hruška, Jan Svorada, Lubor Tesař, Alois Kaňkovský, Jaroslav Kulhavý, Ján Valach, Pavel Boudný, závodníci z týmu PSK Whirpool HK, ale i slavné československé cyklistky jako Lada Kozlíková (nyní Usnulová), Tereza Huříková, Jiřina Ščučková, Julie Pekárková, Pavlína Šulcová, Tereza Trefná a další..myslím si, že by jsme mohli jmenovat spousty dalších známých jmen které se postavili na start závodu ve Střeni. Je to pro nás nesmírně zavazující navázat na tuto tradici, a však dnes píšeme novu historii v nové disciplíně gravel, proto i nový název Hanácké gravel, který je spojen i s místním regionem „HANÁ“
